How to Plan Your Wedding at Newton City Hall

Are you preparing for your special day and considering Newton City Hall as the perfect location? With its iconic Colonial Revival Architecture, it's a dream location to exchange vows. But how do you go about scheduling your ceremony? Let's walk you through it.

Step 1: Fill Out the Marriage Intention Forms (No Appointment Needed)

It's time to make it official! Both of you need to drop by together (In Person) and fill out the Marriage Intention forms.

  • You can do this at Newton City Hall or any City or Town Clerk's Office in Massachusetts. The filing fee in Newton is just $35.00 and you can pay at City Hall using cash, a check, or a debit card. How convenient is that?

  • Both of you must be at least eighteen years of age. Start thinking about the date and place of the wedding, who's going to officiate it, and the name each of you will use after the wedding.

  • Remember, your wedding ceremony must take place in Massachusetts within 60 days after you file your marriage intention.

  • There is a three calendar day waiting period before they can issue the certificate in-person.

But don't worry, if you're in a hurry, you can get a court order waiving the waiting period from a local trial court.

Step 2 : Scheduling Your Ceremony at Newton City Hall

Planning your wedding involves numerous important decisions, but scheduling your ceremony at Newton City Hall is surprisingly straightforward. There are two easy ways you can do this:

  • Call Ahead: You can schedule your ceremony before you even step foot in City Hall. Simply call (617)796-1200 and set the date for your big day. This option allows you to secure your date even before you fill out the marriage intention forms.

  • Schedule In-Person: If you prefer to handle things in person, you can schedule your ceremony while filling out your Marriage Intention forms at Newton City Hall. Just inform the clerk that you'd like to arrange your ceremony with them, and they'll take care of the rest.

Step 3: Let's Get It Ready

Now that we have a date, we'll put together a detailed timeline for your big day. This will include where and when we'll meet, our schedule, and a list of family photos, in case you're inviting guests.
